The SCIMITAR+: Smoking Cessation Intervention for Severe Mental Ill Health Trial: a definitive randomised evaluation of a bespoke cessation service

Smoking is an important health issue among people with severe mental illness (SMI) who are three times more likely to smoke than the general population. A bespoke smoking cessation intervention has been developed which has been tailored to the needs of people with severe mental ill health and will now be evaluated in a definitive trial, SCIMITAR+.

The trial has been recruiting in primary and secondary care sites throughout England since October 2015 and is scheduled to complete recruitment by April 2017.The recruitment has been so successful that the trial is currently three months ahead of schedule and is expected to complete recruitment in early 2017.
